Belgian-born engineer
Charles Legrand installed a direct current electrical system in
Douglas' Copper Queen smelter in 1903. He was also involved with a
60-mile direct current power line to the Sonoran mining camp of El
Tigre.
Douglas
boarding houses
In Douglas'
early days, hundreds of people lived in boarding houses. Managers of
these boarding houses included Pearl Starr, daughter of the infamous
Belle, and some equally fascinating ladies.

He came to
Tombstone in 1880, his ranch spanned the U.S. - Mexico border, and his
Douglas bank help to finance the Mexican Revolution.
Arizona
anthem and Douglas men in entertainment world
The words to Arizona's
anthem were written by a Douglas woman, Margaret Clifford, and the music
by a Douglas man, Maurice Blumenthal. He was one of several Douglas
Jewish men with entertainment world connections.
